an update from the Cité...

Did you know that there is a Vélib' stand right in front of the Cité? At the entrance to Metro Pont Marie and down the side along rue de l'Hôtel de Ville. There is a very long stand in front
of the church of St. Paul, too. They're everywhere, and they are well used. You see people riding
those bikes all over. What a great idea and it's raised a lot of revenue for the city, I've heard. 149,000 stands! These are especially popular now with the transport strike.

There is definitely free Wireless in Paris, though it's still most convenient to have the WiFirst connection in the studio since I blog on a daily basis. However, when we're ending our month long subscription at the end of Nov. When we return from our weekend in Dublin, I'll use the free Wireless.

There are locations all around the city. In the 4th, the nearby outdoor places that we've seen people using computers are Place de Vosges (Square Louis XIII) for which I've attached a lovely foto by Daquella Manra Flickr and behind Notre Dame in the Square Jean XXIII. The Parvis in front of l'Hôtel de Ville & the Jarden des Halles are others neartby. However, with weather being a bit chilly, gray and damp, nearby indoor locations are the Bibliotheque Baudoyer, which is in the Mairie of the 4e, the Bibliotheque Isle St. Louis, across the Seine at 21, rue St. Louis en l'Ile, the Bibliotheque Historique de la Ville de Paris, which is right up rue Pavee, and the Espace Blancs Manteaux. You can also get a glass of wine or beer and hang out in La Perla, Mexican resto around the corner. While visiting the Petit Palais, we stopped for a chocolate chaud in their cafe and noticed it was also a hotspot, and sure enough there were people on their laptops.

Just to be sure, I asked a man who was "working" on his laptop in Place de Vosges... "Excusez-moi, est ce que gratuit, le Wifi?" "Oui!"

view review---white sky, gray green Seine, leaves almost gone on trees, Notre Dame coming more into view.

au revoir, a la prochain
