Another au revoir to the Virginia Center

As we wait for the shuttle to take us to CDG for our return to Virginia, we think about how lucky we are, all of us who get to stay in the Virginia Center at Cite des Arts. Meeting artists from all over the world is wonderful. We've made such lovely connections. Here's a view of the Cite from Ile St. Louis that I took yesterday.  Note:  pain aux raisins or pain au raisin, I've seen both used depending on the boulangerie. (posted by mim golub scalin)

Books in English, The Red Wheelbarrow

There are several places to get English language books in Paris, of course, but our neighborhood bookstore is The Red Wheelbarrow. You won't get bargain or used books here, but you will get a great selection, have excellent conversations, and find out the most interesting things about books, authors, the neighborhood, from the friendly proprietors and staff. Even though we are about to depart from the Cite des Arts, I had to make another trip to the bookstore for reading material for my flight home.  When you stop by the shop, give them my regards. A la prochaine. NOTE: my apologies on the mispelling....it's actually a "pain au raisin." I've been making it plural.  A bientot, until the next sojourn at the Cite des Arts. March 2009

We've been here in the Viginia Atelier for the month of March and have watched the new velo path being created. There's been much activity outside the windows, some noisy and some not-so. The monument of Coree, which we call The Bunny, is surrounded by barriers. We've seen the picture framer, who has a shop on the ground level, with his Dalmatian dog, and this year, we've actually stopped in and spoken with him and his wife. As our current stay, comes to a close, I'm thinking about my favorite treat, Pain aux raisins. How many can I have before we leave or how many can I take on the plane with me. We depart the Cite des Arts on 30 March, leaving behind more books in the storage closet, some non-perishable provisions for the kitchen, clean towels, and good memories. We hadn't expected to have the use of 8317 when we requested  a month's stay, and in fact were told we'd have 8122. When we arrived, we were nicely surprised by being given this space. It feels like home. Hopefully, it'll feel that way for the next resident.  (posted by Mim Golub Scalin)
